Jagex, the publisher behind RuneScape, has registered several trademarks in the UK, apparently to combat third-party websites selling in-game currency.

The company has registered two trademarks in the UK, one for “OSRS Gold” and another for “RS Gold”, with the filing indicating that the company has registered the use of the phrases as words. This would likely prevent third-party sites from advertising that they are selling RS Gold.
A quick Google search for either term returns hundreds of websites, many with one of the terms in their URLs, that offer currencies in RuneScape in exchange for real money.
This followed the October 13 announcement that Jagex was ending âreal world tradingâ. In a message to his Blog, âThe RuneScape Teamâ explained that âgold purchased through RWT [real world trading] is a problem in any online game that has an exchangeable currency.
Jagex says he will be sending “messages to players we have identified as committing to RWT” in “the next few hours.”
âTo everyone who has been involved, we want to be clear – this is your one and only warning,â he added.
News was also reported that the game’s PvP mode, Duel Arena, is undergoing sweeping changes, including stricter enforcement of the game’s code of conduct, to encourage more positive play. Jagex says the feature “has been a flashpoint for this toxic behavior”.
Before that, however, what the publisher calls “short-term measures” will be implemented: “until our development teams can deliver a major update that completely replaces the Duel Arena next year. “.
In addition, Netflix has released a Netflix Games application on the Google App Store, which will offer five games – including two Strange things titles – as of today (November 2).
